How it started
“What made you want to do this?”
The answer is pretty simple, I needed to leave.
I had jobs that I liked with great bosses and coworkers, friends I got to see often, a house full of interesting and kind roommates, and a 5-minute walking commute. Rode bikes all week, walked dogs and played with cats, could go to the farmers market every weekend, etc etc, you get the picture. It was great.
And yet… I was crawling out of my skin to pick up and never be heard from again! The hustle and bustle and pure monotony were overwhelming me - nothing was changing and I couldn’t figure out how to move forward.
I sold my ‘89 Volvo and bought an orange (Tangerine Mist Metallic) Honda Element, a car I’d been dreaming of having since its production in 2003. I researched cars for months, looked at different camping systems folks had come up with, and dove into the Element forums, Facebook groups, and Instagram community. I built a bed platform, a friend helped build a cabinet, and I started collecting, organizing, and deciding on what I wanted to bring on a trip across the country.
After a couple of months I decided I was as ready as I’d ever be, quit my job, and moved my stuff back home for the first time in a decade.
